Associate Director - Agribusiness at big 3 CRA (S&P. Moodys, Fitch)
Hi,
I am wondering about the exit prospects of a current "Associate Director - Agribusiness" at some big 3 CRA.
I heard it's hard to get a promotion from this level and land at a Director role within the company, so I am wondering if someone got success in existing a similar situation / role.
I just began applying for some Financials roles in agro-related Industries and consultancy companies.
Do you have any experience on that matter or advice?
Best,
M.
Hey M,
Based on the most helpful WSO content, it seems that exit opportunities from a big 3 CRA (S&P, Moody's, Fitch) can be quite diverse. However, it's important to note that these opportunities often arise at experienced Associate/VP/Director level laterals, as these individuals can contribute unique insights into certain sectors or products, which takes time to develop.
In terms of your specific situation as an "Associate Director - Agribusiness", it's not uncommon to see laterals to credit roles or industry teams within Investment Banking. However, these transitions are less common at a junior level from a rating agency.
It's also worth noting that the CRA's provide a great opportunity to get your foot in the finance door early on in your career. The compensation might be lower than the street, but the work-life balance is often unbeatable.
As for your current applications to financial roles in agro-related industries and consultancy companies, that sounds like a solid plan. Your experience and knowledge in agribusiness from your current role could be a unique selling point.
Remember, it's all about leveraging your unique insights and experiences. Keep swinging from those branches and you'll find the right tree soon enough!
Best, Max the Monkey

I feel like if you cast a wider net and focus broadly on jobs within the consumer goods/food sector then most investment banks, credit /equity research or even MM private credit would benefit from specialized knowledge in that area. Agri has been mostly spec grade here in Europe so opens doors to opportunities in lev fin, or High yield space if you frame experience right
