You know, I have to say that the creative lengths that some people are going to in order to try and get a leg up on the competition in the virtually non-existent job market is, if nothing else, entertaining. I thought the sandwich board guy was interesting (and he did end up getting a job, so maybe he was onto something), but this latest stint is even more out there.
Some guy named Mark Gullett recently lost his job to “re-structuring” at the Florida company where he had been employed as Vice President of Marketing. Instead of brushing up his resume and hitting the job sites full force, he enlisted the help of his 14 year old son, Ben. There’s currently a video on YouTube in which Ben flips through hand-written signs about how great his father is and how much he needs a job, complete with sappy-ass music droning in the background.
Two questions, is this really even Mark’s son or did he slip $50 to the neighbor’s kid and write out the signs himself? And if it is, in fact, his son, are potential employers really going to go for some guy who pimps out his kid to get a job lead? Time will tell, I suppose. At last count, the video had received over 700 views. I suppose if it doesn’t work out, he can always send good ol’ Ben out to pan handle on the streets for him. What the hell else are kids good for, anyway?
