I’ve lived in Houston and do think you’ve screwed yourself. Live in the heights, washington, downtown, midtown, river oaks, around Rice etc. Houston is not an expensive city, and it’s important to prioritize a good area over a better apartment. You can pay like $800/month in most of these places with a roommate and get something okayish if saving is your top priority, but absolutely don’t try and save by living somewhere unsafe… If you can move somewhere else, do. If not, it’s an internship so you’ll probably be fine, but don’t make this mistake full time.
half mile from Leeland/Scott and separated by I-45 from 3rd ward? So you're in EaDo? You're gonna be safe. Should be able to walk to and from the EaDo bars if you don't mind the heat.
Agree that this isn't an ideal location, but for like 8 weeks you'll be fine driving through. Just be aware.. don't stop for gas there, try to avoid sitting at a red light with music blasting and windows down, and don't stop with a car right in front of you, leave room to pull out/away if you need to. Don't leave anything in your car (even sunglasses, empty backpack) but this goes for all of Houston.
Everyone I know who has had issues in Houston has kind of been asking for stuff to happen (walking home at 3am, not locking car doors). I would not walk home from bars, for example.
It's not like anyone really bothers random cars that pass through. If you are uncomfortable with the intersection itself, Houston is a grid and you can plot a new route home

Thanks for the thoughts. Definitely wish I’d picked a different spot but hopefully I’ll get a do-over for FT

Not quite EaDo. I’m in the Eastwood area and I hit that Leeland/Scott intersection on the way to/from work
Oh. Not a great place to live but you should be safe

The best places for young singles is in the Midtown/Montrose area. Sounds like you are in East Downtown?
Sounds like he's east of East Downtown
