If you haven't seen the 6 Star Wars, 3 Indiana Jones, or the Dark Knight trilogy start with those. Otherwise here are my personal favorites, some of which are severely underrated/not well known.
If you've seen enough Tarantino, El Royale is literally an exact mix of Pulp Fiction, The Hateful Eight, and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. So much that's obvious lol. But still a great movie nonetheless. Hell or High Water I think is one of the most underrated dramas/thrillers/westerns out there imo.
Yeah but did Daniel Plainview really fall? I mean you could argue he got everything he wanted. I think it's more about his moral corruption over time, which is similar, but not a classic rise and fall like The Wolf of Wall Street or Goodfellas.
Would add Casino to rise and fall and Django to stylish movies as well. Also, imo Infinity War is actually one of the only good Marvel movies (way better than Endgame). One of the only ones I've seen where they weren't afraid to have the superheroes lose even though you knew they were going to undo it somehow later, action was really good since they got everything from huge battles like Wakanda to intense 1v1s like Iron Man v. Thanos, and Thanos was one of the best villains in recent memory. Sad that they reverted him to a basic Marvel baddie in Endgame.
If you want to watch a great kung fu movie, I highly recommend Kung Fu Hustle. The dialogue is basically a meme and the fight scenes are awesome. I don't watch movies more than once but this is the only movie I've watched like 4 times.
I watched First Cow the other night and really liked it (on Showtime). It's pretty slow paced but an enjoyable watched. It's produced by A24 if anyone's familiar.
I also watched LA Confidential for the first time recently too and that was amazing (on Netflix).
No. You're watching a man's rise and fall before your eyes. You see how despite his wealth, fame, power, and sheer ambition, he is never able to find the happiness and freedom he had when he was a child. The movie is especially interesting to watch today because of Trump. It's almost uncanny how similar they are. I really believe that Trump watched the movie and decided that he wanted to live the same life.
In that light I may give it another try. I just found it boring, but that was years ago. Also, I don't tend to like movies made prior to around 1965. I don't know what it is, something about the style, or their speaking cadence? Anyway, thanks for the feedback, I may try again.
go in blind with the sixth sense, if you haven't seen it.
Sixth sense is a movie you have to watch twice

Bad Times at the El Royale is criminally underrated
If you liked Shutter Island try Inception, might have already seen it but it's a 10/10 mind fuck (in a good way)
The plot twist in Shutter Island... left me speechless. Inception was a great movie too but left me confused
Inception is pretty good but yeah it can be a little confusing. Shutter Island is easy to understand but at the same time still mind blowing
I agree, Inception is really confusing. But it's really good

To add a few other genres:

Human Interest/Introspective
Blue Valentine
The Florida Project
Columbus
The Rider
The Florida Project is one of my all-time faves and so underrated. Thank you for including it!
Eternal sunshine and Florida project are great choices. Awesome taste here. Would also add Se7en somewhere in there. Great movie.

Quite honestly Citizen Kane sucks to watch. It may be a landmark movie, but it sucks.
