New User - Intro
Greetings! I'm an active duty, Marine Corps Captain who has served for 9 years. During my time in the Corps, I flew F/A-18 Hornets both in the United States and in SE Asia. Most recently, I've been serving as the Executive Officer / Operations Officer in a non-flying role. I'm leaving the service this summer and am moving to NYC. I'm looking to break into the finance industry there and am hoping that I can learn more about the industry and leverage the WSO community's experience to make the transition as seamlessly as possible.

Welcome Matt and thank you for your service! I'd start in the FAQs (//www.wallstreetoasis.com/frequently-asked-questions) and then run searches to try and dive deeper into subjects you want to learn more about.
Hi Matt,
I went enlisted-->undergrad-->banking, myself. Any interest in doing an MBA? That would obviously be an expensive and time consuming route, but it's definitely the tried and true way to go from Officer to Finance. Nothing's impossible, though.
Also, what areas are you interested in? I'd recommend reading about the differences between roles in the FAQ and getting a feel for what you want to target, if you haven't already. Whatever you go for within finance, you will need to really focus in on it, be able to convincingly explain your story in the context of going that route, and get up to speed for interviews.
All the best.
A random but important suggestion - I would probably change your username at some point given that it makes it easy to identify who you are on this forum, especially given your unique background.
Forgot to mention that I have an MBA already and a BA in Econ. Also currently sitting for the CFA Level 1 in June.
Thanks for the tip. Oversight on my part.
Thanks for your service, Matt! Welcome to the site and hope you can find helpful advice to help you take the next step in your career...
