I am a liberal arts student in an university in Ontario supplementing my degree with various courses in economics. I am looking to start a career in finance when I graduate. Ideally that would be in global markets although also interested in doing consulting - also more interested in international than regional. My main goal is of course to make a lot of money so long term I would like to get into investing - from my research I take it that PE/HF/VC constitute the richest people in the world who aren't entrepreneurs/oil sheiks.
I am fluent in Spanish and Portuguese (will be getting citations from my university certifying my proficiency) and so looking towards possibly summer interning in Latin America at a bank/consulting company (not for the coming summer, but next) or in Europe. I have a lot of travel experience as well and will be doing a semester abroad.
A few things I'm worried about and hoping to improve upon by joining
1) How much of a negative is it that my choice of major is in the liberal arts? Also, any tips on questions that will come as to why not finance on an interview?
2) Is it realistic to get summer work experience abroad - or would I have to fly to Latin America/Europe for interviews?
3) This one is a slightly silly question, but important for me: how can I differentiate and find out whether an answers is from a poster with a legitimate career and not some basement dweller?
Thanks for reading,
