Not sure why this post has the Italy tag but for the record this is for 2023 SA in the US
I told a bank they were my first choice, received the offer, then had to cancel an upcoming Superday on 15 hours' notice.
Don't do what I did.
The people at the bank I canceled the Superday at were not happy – they mentioned it was unprofessional to not follow through with the opportunity. I thought that a "first choice" was the equivalent of an early decision in college and, by extension, proceeding with an interview was an unfair waste of their time. Don't think they saw it that way.
If you haven't told this particular bank that they're #1 — and especially if you've networked extensively at your other opportunities — see the Superdays through. Let your alums pitch you on their respective banks, then make your decision. Otherwise, you risk fracturing relationships in an industry that is both relatively small and notorious for holding grudges.
Also, congrats on the offer!!
Thank you so much for sharing this! I'll follow through the process. I didn't go through any networking for the MO roles though, just applied and got spds after the hirevues. Just to double-check, would you recommend me follow up with that top FO group that waitlisted me? I mentioned that I have a few spds coming up when interviewing with them, so one of the interviewers promptly updated my status and told me to follow-up if I get competing offers.
Disagree - going to an interview that you know you won’t accept is wasting everyone’s time, including your own. Just send a nice email saying while you appreciate the opportunity, you’re planning to accept a job and are canceling out of respect for their time.
If it's one day before the spd wouldn't it be too last minute though?
I cancelled superdays at BofA, Lazard, and a boutique last year. I (truthfully) told the bank I accepted that they were my first choice. I told my contacts at the other banks that I was super grateful for them blah blah and cancelled the superdays. They were all more or less professional about it; the least professional interaction I had was just not getting a reply.
How long before the spds did you cancel them?
Bump
Bro nobody cares, just cancel that shit. Only reason (which isn’t even a good reason) would be if you really cared about the alumni, but then why tf would you waste their time if you would accept the offer you have on hand anyways. Just thank them for the opportunity but tell them you recieved an offer elsewhere so will no longer be continuing with their process.
You have upcoming super days for middle office positions? But you’ve already secured a front office role at a BB? Why waste yours and everyone else’s time then?
I already cancelled some of my spds, but one of them is on Tuesday so I'm scared to cancel it about 24 hours before the spd happens. I also haven't got the official offer letter from the FO group yet, it was offer call and congrat calls last week.
