Cold Call Interview Advice

Hey All! Long time reader but first time poster. Little background on myself before addressing the topic of my post. Went to a non-target school in the south. Currently working as an associate PubFin for a regional BD in the southwest.

90% of the deal flow I work on is within our higher education group, which is actually super interesting, but Im a little unhappy with the firm im with so I am currently feeling out the job market to make a jump out of PubFin into PE or Leverage Fin (I know its quite difficult to do this).

Anyway, I found a pretty new fund that had a job posting on their website for an opening associate role. I kinda went out on a limb and decided to cold call them instead of submitting my resume via their formal process. So, I called their headquarters number located on their website, asked for their CEO and actually got through. The guy was very gracious to even take my call. I pitched him on myself and why I believe I could be a good fit for their current associate opening.

Long story short, he suggested we meet for an introduction breakfast meeting. I was curious to hear if anyone on WSO has experience with interviewing after cold calling a fund/firm? Additionally, just wanted to see if anyone had advice on how I could standout and some how turn the breakfast into an offer! Thanks!!
