Are msf programs a waste of time?
I’m going to be a senior in college next year at a non-target with a 3.5-3.6 gpa. I have an internship with a BB (GS/MS/JPM) in a BO/MO role for this summer but ultimately want to end up in sales and trading or IB. I’m new to WSO but understand that lateraling from a BO to FO role after an internship is basically impossible, especially with the programs being 100% virtual this summer. All things considered, would a prestigious msf program directly out of undergrad help me break into a FO role or would it be a waste of time?
Likely not that helpful, especially for the price tag of some of these programs
I had a colleague who went from a non target to an ivy MS program (not the top ivies) and ended up in the FO at GS afterwards. consider it
I’ve seen placement results from the more prestigious Msf programs like MIT’s, so if you can make it into one of those, the price tag might potentially be worth it
Yes, it will help you, but only if you go to one of the top programs. Plenty of threads on here that give you some "tiered" rankings. MIT and Vanderbilt are the top standard 1-year programs so target those. They are completely different in terms of program structure and culture, so be sure to read up on that and do the on-sight interviews if you are invited and they still have them.
