if it is google capital i guess it works
It'll help from a branding perspective and lends credibility to "why tech" for TMT groups, but probably not much in the way of directly transferable skills. That being said, It could be helpful to play up the quantitative ability/data analysis parts of the job
Google or BB - How Easy to Switch from Google to IBD in Junior Year Recruiting (Originally Posted: 11/19/2017)
I'm posting for a friend who received an offer from Google for software engineering but aims to go into IBD for career after grad. He is currently a sophomore at a target (for IB not for tech). To spend a summer at Google, he has to turn down a FO but non-IBD BB offer this sophomore summer. His rationale is that it is easier to go from tech to finance than the other way around. Also if he pursues a career in finance he'll have plenty of time to learn about it in the next 10/15 years, while if he spends a summer in tech before heading back to banking, this experience can't be replicated. His long term goal is to enter buyside with a focus on tech. But he has not yet made up his mind regarding the choices. Any thoughts on that how easy it would be to move from tech to IBD in junior year? He has interned at FO roles in his freshman summer (if that matters), so he's not switching to IBD as a blank sheet.
