This is for all IB recruiters-what au looking for?

I've read today the comments on the topic where u guys were making fun of prospective IB analysts and their applications. So my question is to you and everyone else- What do u expect on the application and what are u really looking for? Do u need to read all the fancy crap that we write as a rule, or u simply skip through it and go to the main points? What are the main points? Feel free to add any of the ideas that I skipped.

Most everyone's resumes and applications are going to be the same. The real deciding factor is the interview, thats the real application. That being said, competition for these positions is intense, and it is sheer stupidity to have any flaws on one's resume.

it really depends where you are coming from, requirements from a target school are much more lax than those from a non=target

Disclaimer: The post above has been made by someone who is not currently employed in IBD, and has not had an interview yet...

Honestly, since all resumes look alike, there are only two things that recruiters (including myself when I'm screening undergrads) really care about and look at: school and gpa.

no matter;I was just asking in general what qualities are they looking for to do good in IB field cause I'm sure that good grades alone won't do the trick.

I'm not a "recruiter", but I do recruit with my school team. My team looks for the following traits in the following order:

GPA. We don't get really excited by anything below a 3.7, but we take 3.5 and above.

Investment banking internships or quant finance internships or incredibly cool non-finance internships. You MUST show either a serious i-banking focus or extreme coolness in another field.

Serious accounting/finance/quantitative coursework.

We will glance through cover letters, but unless they make us laugh at you, we won't really consider them. If they make us laugh at you, we will mark you a "no" and move on.

Hard truths, guys, but that's the way it works.
