I finally got an IB offer after over 300 rejections. Never give up.
Before you read this, I want you to read my recent post history. They’re all about rejections, failing conversions, and thinking about giving up. Every post I made was written after each rejection. I had over 300 interviews and got rejected by all of them. Well now that’s changed, I finally got an offer at a MM M&A boutique. I finally did it. I didn’t give up and I finally got my offer.
I just want to say to those failing to convert, be persistent, and don’t give up. I got the job by emailing the firm a second time, and asking for another shot. They were so pleased that they gave me another interview, I crushed it, and they gave me an offer. Be persistent, and take initiative. That’s what changed everything for me. That’s what will set you apart from everyone else.
Thank you for encouraging me not to give up WSO!
congrats bro! love to see hard work paying off.
Congrats bro, but 300?
Are there that many firms?
Don’t think ur lying,
Just wondering about how you found 300 boutiques
Guessing he means like total with rounds
That and other jobs that weren’t ib i.e corporate dev, RE PE, PE, Etc.
He’s definitely lying. And if not, he probably shouldn’t be in this industry if he got 300 rejections lmao
Congrats man, you finally did it. Some people have to work much harder than others, but it only makes the reward that much sweeter. I had to grind insanely hard just to get IB internships, and it was certainly less competitive, even just a few short years ago. Hope you find a good way to celebrate after all the hard work
You are an absolute King 👑
Aweosme man. What did you say in the email?
Fucks sake man. I mean, congratulations, but fuck.. at the 100 mark I honestly would have given up. Youre clearly very tenacious. What was the timeline? These interviews were over what period of time? Were you unemployed until now?
I was a student, it was within a 2 year span since junior year. I did have internships within those four years of school, but the economy and competitive job market during FT recruitment made it so difficult.
Hey I'd love to hear when you started recruiting for FT positions within that 2 year span?
What did you say in the email? In the same situation.
Congrats! Love the tenacity!
Hey man did you last summer analyst internship or full times
I did summer analyst internships and got this job through FT recruitment
Congrats!
Well done! Now do well but don't invest 100% of yourself in it. Protect your mental health, as I'm sure that this recruiting effort must have left some sort of a mark; hope for the best only
You're a beast bro! Very inspiring. I'm in a similar place with recruiting and this is really motivating. Really liked how you asked for another shot, that's a sexy move.
Congratulations! As another post mentioned above, do try to protect your mental health in the workplace since such insane levels of grinding probably took a toll on you, but I am not too worried! I think that in opposition to many juniors in IB, you will know why you are doing this job, you will remember all the sacrifices, and it will push you further, make you more resilient and ultimately make you go far. Enjoy your win, King!
This is inspiring to hear having over 200 rejections myself.
Congrats! Hard work paid off!!!
Cap. Nonetheless, congrats brodi!!! Cheers!
Do you mind sharing the email you sent asking for a second shot
I will make a follow up post and post the email.
May I ask, you got rejected after an interview and asked for a second chance? Or just didn’t manage to go to the interview stage in the first place?
Congratulations and good luck with your role!
I got rejected after the first round interview (the first time) so I didn’t make it to the next round and then asked for a second chance a month later when they opened another role.
Im in the same spot but made superday. Can you PM, wondering what I should say in the email
I have my interview for a IB position today. After many rejections hopefully this post is a sign
Congrats, hard work pays off!
Congratulations!
I forget who said it but I once heard the following quote and it resonated:
"Tell me a dream of yours. Any dream... ranging from dream job to dream girlfriend, finally securing fundraising for an idea / startup, getting your first client... you name it. Now what if I could see the future and told you that you're guaranteed to fail 100 times, but that on the 101st attempt you'd succeed. How quickly would you get off your ass and start getting through those first 100 failures?"
I truly believe hard work and perseverance eats talent all day, so congrats again!
Love this
Congrats man! Now it’s about impressing them on the actual desk. Your grit will prove every doubter wrong.
Can you post what your email said about asking for another shot?
Love to see it, congrats!
how would you say linkedin has helped you in finding jobs?
Congrats! Was in a similar boat breaking into IB. Took me about 3.5 years of networking, sending out thousands of cold emails, resumes, and a few hundred interviews before I finally made it to the holy land. Funny enough I too landed my first role with a firm I had interviewed with previously and had been rejected by and had re-interviewed with many of the same people.
Mind if I PM to hear more about your story?
How did it go when you interviewed with the same people?

If you felt the need to ridicule someone for being happy after working hard and achieving something they worked hard for, you must feel unsatisfied with what you’ve done in your life. I hope you achieve your dreams man you’ll get there!
I was gonna respond but then I realized you work for a boutique M&A firm as an Analyst 1.
Me > You
awesome news buddy!! enjoy
Great achievement fellow! You are a role model for many who have the luck to enter this word and still no appreciating what an opportunity they have to capitalize and become better persons
Ad Maiora
Tenacity and grit. I'm sure that you will crush it. Best of luck!
I admire your strength. Congratulations! Whatever you do, wherever you are, you will go far in life. This is inspiring, thanks for sharing!
U got a snapchat bby??? I'm attracted to optimists.
Congrats, man. Keep us posted on how it goes
Where did you do your SA, and how do you think it might be for someone doing FT without one?
I think I got mine after 20ish rejections or so and I was pretty devastated even with those numbers which are significantly lower than yours - really admire your persistence. I'm sure your grit will pay off even more dividends in the future. Good luck!
Congratulations. Your life is about to suck. It’s not worth it. “Have fun!”
And then you realise it was all for nothing after ~6 months
Im in the same situation. What do I email them? I had a super day but failed, and now another position opened up. What did you say and how should i proceed?
Congrats man. I was in the same boat. All the most satisfying when you finally get that offer
Good for you dawg, major props! You know what you have, eventually someone else will respond!
