Have seen HL take Canadians. Don’t know about Guggenheim.
There’s no differentiation between Canadians and regular internationals now since Trump changed TN. At least that’s the feeling I got through networking. HL sponsors, Guggenheim doesnt
Short answer - No.
Boutiques like Guggenheim have hardly ever hired Canadians. HL maybe a handful from McGill and Ivey.
BBs and EBs used to hire a handful of Canadians back in the day. Now, they just prefer hiring Americans or Europeans (in the UK) because the quality of Canadian students is subpar in terms of work ethic. They may be equally intelligent but Canadians, in general, don’t work as hard as Brits or Americans or even Indians and Asians (who can outwork most people), as a matter of fact. A lot of these Indians and Asians end up going to top tier schools and finish top of their respective classes, AND work like dogs. Which, for a bank, is better bang for buck.
I was told this by a family friend who is a Staffer and Director at HL’s Restructuring group. As a bank, your chances of getting an equally good, if not a better, candidate domestically are much higher. So, why spend an extra buck hiring and sponsoring Canadians. Comparatively, the country just lacks hustle culture.
This is definitely untrue, at my firm (EB) we hire lots of Canadians and they are consistently better than most, even ivy-league kids.
They have business degrees, tons of internships and the hustle to make it out of Canada to the US
Gugg and HL have hired Canadians, I know for a fact a kid from Schulich is going there this summer
There are like 10 kids going to Moelis and evercore each, and a bunch to PJT
They actively avoid doing on campus at McGill and ivy
