The practice of pro-rating bonuses for analysts who leave before the bonus payout can vary from bank to bank. Generally, most banks require you to be employed on the bonus payout date to receive the full bonus. If an analyst leaves after the bonus amount is communicated but before it is actually paid out, they typically do not receive the bonus.

However, there are instances where banks may still pay out bonuses to analysts who leave before the payout date, especially if they have completed a full year of work. It’s also common in the industry for the new employer to “make whole” the forgone bonus, either by waiting until the bonus is paid out or by compensating for it in some other way.
