Chances at MFE Oxford
Hi there,
I have currently a GPA of 1.94 (1.0 best / 5.0 fail) -> Oxford requires a GPA of 1.90, however I contacted them and they told me that I should still be fine from a GPA perspective.
My GMAT is high 740+ and I have relevant work experience (BB and EB and Private Equity).
What do you think are my Chances for the MFE in Oxford? Also if you do not think I am gonna make it, could you please recommend any other programmes to me? I was thinking about HEC (Int. Fin), LSE (Fin & PE), or LBS (MFA).
In the long-term (or even 3-4 years) I do not think that university matters that much. Can anyone agree or what are your thoughts on this?
MFE alumnus here. You have an excellent shot, BB and EB compensates for the low gpa. They seem to greatly value strong CVs recently. Also, be aware it’s probably the academically most rigorous finance master out there. Expectations are high and you will spend a loooot of time in the library. However, it’s an amazing programme and I had the best time there. Just keep in mind your lifestyle will be very different compared to LBS or HEC for example.

The GMAT is the biggest predictor of you getting in (then GPA), if you have 750-760 you should have a good chance and it should compensate the lower GPA (non-first class equivalent). Also helps if your school is somewhat decent. The average has crept up in recent years, think last year's was around 750.
To be honest I feel like they do not care about work experience, it is more a byproduct of being correlated with high academic achievement which is what they are really selecting for. Overall think you have a decent shot.
Also apply round 1 to maximize your chances, the latter the round the more competitive it gets.
