Best 2 bedroom apartments in SF at a reasonable price

I'm an incoming analyst and will be working out of the FiDi and my buddy is a SWE making about the same and working mostly remote, but he wants to live in SF. We're looking at around $2k/person for a nice apartment in a safe part of town that is convenient. We have until the summer to find a place which I believe is enough time, but do you think we can find a 2 bed 2 bath for around this much in the next ~6 months? We're both originally from the Bay and love the city, but am having trouble deciding. Russian/Nob hill are nice neighborhoods, but it seems like the buildings like 399 Fremont and around those areas are more convenient.
