Acceptable Haircut for M&A Intern
I am interning at a top Canadian Investment Bank in Toronto next summer, and naturally, I am hyper-worried about stupid details. It is my final internship and first IB internship, and it would mean the world to get a FT offer from this firm because I worked so hard to break in from a non-target school.
I currently have a haircut almost identical to this with about 3/4 of an inch more space between my eyebrows and my hair, so more of my forehead is showing. I also did all of my interviews with my hair that way, not styled any differently:
I know I shouldn't be worrying about shit like this, but when I go into the office next summer, should I just go with the classic side-part, clean-cut banker look, or should it be fine to keep my current style? I find that I look bad with the side-part style because my hairline is kinda shitty (naturally shitty, I'm not balding yet) which is why I like my current style, and I've been rocking this for a few years so I am comfortable with it. I know I am graduating soon and entering the professional workforce, and I'm not sure how "professional" this haircut is, but I mean it's not like I'm walking in with a mohawk. I'm just worried the hairstyle may make me come off as more youthful and unprofessional in an environment like M&A, and I'm trying to do everything I can to get the FT offer.
This is fine. I might take some volume off the front so it's not a messy mop of volume / resembles a fohawk, but this shouldn't bother anyone.

However, it's also important to feel comfortable and confident in your appearance. If your current hairstyle is neat, well-maintained, and not overly flashy, it should be fine. Remember, the key is to be remembered for your skills and work ethic, not your hairstyle.
That being said, if you're still unsure, you could consider reaching out to your HR contact or a mentor at the firm to get their perspective. They would have the best understanding of the firm's culture and expectations.
