URGENT: Dress Shoes Dilemma
Urgent because the deals are going away soon lol.
Going to be an S&T intern for a BB in New York next summer. I need to buy a pair of black dress shoes for the internship and want to invest in some quality shoes that could last me a while but struggling to decide. I was looking at Allen Edmonds and To Boot NY, pictured below
Allen Edmonds:
To Boot NY:
I also got a pair of hand-me-down brown Magnanni oxfords:
Two main concerns regarding these dress shoes: are the hole-filled stitchings acceptable (both fashion and professionalism-wise), and is it important for the shoe soles to be leather (leather bottoms make the shoe super slippery but it does look nicer. AE has leather bottoms but To Boot NY has rubber ones).
Any comments are welcome, and please let me know if there are other quality shoes! Thanks!
I am interning now at a BB where dress code is somewhat relaxed, but truly don't sweat your shoes man. I bought a few pairs of allen edmonds wanting to do everything the best i could and realized no one really gives a shit about your appearance. You could wear $30 dress shoes and as long as they resemble a decent pair no ones going to blink twice.
Also want to add, no one is going to ask to see the sole of your shoe. Maybe if you're walking in front of someone and they look down, but no one cares like seriously no one will think anything. It will have no bearing on if you get a return offer
Thank you so much for the advice really appreciate it!
One of my co intern was told not to wear light-colored shoes in IB by a director, he said "look around you, bankers wear black or dark shoes". He may be the only one who cares about the color of trainees' shoes though
But if you dress in ways you’ve been warned not to . . . .
don’t dress like a summer intern. Dress like some who belongs in that office.
