How Can I Stop Sweating So Much In My Suit?
I'm having a hard time keeping cool in suits. I tend to sweat heavily whenever I put on a suit, usually within an hour or so no matter what I'm doing. I don't have a polyester suit or anything, its 100% wool from calvin klien, and my shirts are all cotton from banana republic or brooks brothers. I also live in Toronto, so its not like its west coast or LV or anything. Worse, if I'm wearing a suit for 2 hours or so before a presentation and just sitting in the library, I tend to get hot and start sweating for no reason.
Any suggestions? I've started wearing undershirts and its been pretty helpful but it feels builky and uncomfortable sometimes. It really destroys my confidence, makes me uncomfortable and just plain smell bad.
edit: oh and deodorant has been pretty ineffective, and the smell is very informal. Are there any good no scent/professional smelling ones out there?
Solutions for Too Much Sweat in Suits
Our users shared some suggestions for different deodorants:
- Certain Dri
- Odaban
- Mitchum
- OnDuty 24 Roll
- Drysol - For specific area treatment
Our users also shared that if these solutions don't work, you should consult with a MD and attempt to lose weight if applicable.
Could be an overactive thyroid if you sweat a lot in general. This could also kill you (makes your body run at a higher speed so it wears out), so get it checked out.
Perhaps try changing your diet - less fried or greasy foods and more veggies and fruits to deal with the odor.
You can buy deodorants such as the ones suggested on Amazon. See Certain Dri below.

Try Certain-Dri (sp?) from your local Walgreens/CVS. If it's not strong enough, look into something more potent like Odoban
I wouldn't know what to suggest for odor. Perhaps try changing your diet - less fried or greasy foods and more veggies and fruits.
If you sweat that much, maybe it's good to visit a doctor too (may be he/she can suggest a healthy diet for you):-s Good luck, and don't be too nervous in the interviews!

Hyperhidrosis. You might need surgery for that. See your local MD.
For the deodorant, Mitchum comes in unscented and has the maximum non-prescription dose of the active ingredient.
In general though diet and exercise (especially if you're overweight) may help.
fill up a tub with baby powder, soak in that shit and then get your ghostly self going
this stuff works wonders: https://www.sweat-off.com/
no idea how you can get it in the US though, I always buy it when in Germany!
Talcum powder. Caswell and Massey #6. Good enough to get George Washington through ferocious Tidewater summer days, good enough for you bro.
AVON's OnDuty 24 roll on unscented or Kiehl's "SUPERBLY EFFICIENT ANTI-PERSPERANT & DEODORANT CREAM" (with Orange, Lemon and Linseed extracts - virally un scented too!).....
These are the 2 products I swear by (and I do not sweat in a suit, with undershirt and shirt on...)
i know how you feel bro. back in college i'd ALWAYS show up to class with my entire back SOAKED through my long sleeved shirts. i never knew why. and this was during the fucking winters too when it was 49 degrees out!
it's gotten better after college prob cause there's isnt as much walking throughout my work day
If you sweat in specific locations, use Drysol. This thing keeps me dry whenever I'm nervous (check out to make sure you are not too nervous). You can get it only with a prescription. I apply it twice a month before bed, and I'm dry throughout the month (and I used to be soaked within minutes I put a shirt on).
But keep in mind, you sweat a lot because the body is trying to cool itself down... so even if you use Drysol, you are very likely to start sweating in other locations.
Another option is to lose weight if you are overweight.
I used to have bad underarm perspiration problems. I tried everything with no success until I started using this. I'm pretty sure it's the strongest non-prescription antiperspirant available. Put it on before you go to bed and make sure it isn't right after you shower or it will itch bad.

I am very thin and have always sweated profusely. I eat healthily. I am pretty sure it has only been since I was about 18 that my sweat actually smelt bad though. Any reason why that would be? Interesting that someone mentioned thyroid. I have a history of problems with this in my family
Cool guys. I just ordered all of the above! I too suffer from these oversweating problems
Sounds like a medical problem, see a doctor.
Wear natural fabrics. There are lightweight/summer weight suits out there. They might help.

I didnt know this thread was still getting views. I got drysol for around 25 bucks over the counter at a local pharmacy and its worked perfectly. I use it on my armptis and my sweating has pretty much stopped. I still sweat a little bit from the balls region but its not that bad.
You could probably wear a cotton undershirt so that you may not sweat bad.
Sweaty Feet? (Originally Posted: 02/09/2012)
I started getting a rash on the bottom of my foot from the moisture/sweat caused by wearing closed shoes for so many hours in the day. Anyone have a remedy for more comfortable socks / shoes that breathe well? Preferably black loafers.
Take your shoes off at the desk?
wear loafers and keep your shoes half on - that way they can breathe and you can also slip right into them in the event someone needs something
You gellin'?
I am not gellin'. Should I be?
Gold bond foot powder? I've seen it next to the Gold Bond ball powder, which in the summer, is god's gift to all mankind.
punch a few holes in 'em.

First World Problems: Sweaty Pits (Originally Posted: 02/21/2012)
After I grab my cup of coffee and sit down at my computer, I grind away at e-mails. Before I know it I'm sweating my pits off in my favorite Brooks Bros and I have a meeting in 15 mins. While at the meeting, if I have to talk, I awkwardly try to avoid showing everyone my under arms and I keep thinking about how I'm ruining another shirt.
I'm not THAT GUY, who spews water falls of arm pit sweat, yet I'm still conscious about it. I realize that caffeine and stress are the main contributors to it, but it sucks being so uncomfortable.
Then, later in the day I'm fine.
Anyone have any tips/stories?
Should I set up two desk fans aim at my pits? Or should I just be sweaty and proud?
Rock some undershirts, they help take care of that. And get yourself a desk fan!
It still goes through the undershirts!
Wear white shits... boom done
better deoderent / anti perspirant? are you working out in the morning? have a warm shower, then an ice shower, then drink a lot of ice water (not coffee)...
see if that works?
it's obviously the hot coffee. switch to iced coffee.
Mitchum has the highest portion of the active antiperspirant ingredient available without a prescription and is unscented so you don't smell like a college freshman drowning in Axe bodyspray. Boom. Done. If you can sweat through that stuff, a) put more of it on and b) if a) fails, see a doctor because you have a serious, medical-grade sweating problem.
You can get a script for super no sweat deodorant from your Dr.
Trim or shave arm pits and get some stronger anti-perspirant.
Wouldn't shaving make it worse?
Second KPCFA on the Mitchum, if your still sweating hardcore after that I'd get your hormones checked.
I wouldn't shave. Girls would be freaked out by that shit.
t shirts?
Still no help.
Looks like these may be my only help (face palm).

I'm just going to stick to white shirts.
Did you know the Yellow Ranger is dead?
why is this content on first page...
Go to a dermatologist. My father had the same problem (I apparently talk to him too much for this convo to come up). He said how he was embarrassed throughout his childhood, and it was unbearable once he started work in NYC. He went to the dermatologist, the dude did like some injection thing once and now its not a problem at all.
huh, never heard of that, I'll give it a shot thanks.
Suck it up and pay the 900 bucks for botox in the armpits, zero sweat for the next 3 years. I used to sweat through fucking sweaters (pun intentional).
Yes. This is awesome. I too could sweat through everything. As soon as I would start sweating I couldn't stop thinking about it and then the floodgates would open. After the Mitchum, under shirts, and cold showers all fail you have to bite the bullet and get the script form the doc. They gave me a steroid cream as well as some Rx rollerball deodorant. I felt like a freak-show putting it on, but a freak show with dry pits. Don't shave your arm pits either bro.
Yep. Had the same problem. Go to a dermatologist.
Dude, I have the same problem. I wear undershirts, it definitely decreases the amount of visible sweat on my button ups, but my god do my tshirts get destroyed ha. Sweat still does show up though. My glands blow, can't wear too much during winter or my pits will cry. I should see a dermatologist, but I don't have 900 for that stuff.
Someone told me that putting deodorant on before going to bed actually makes a big difference the next day, though I can't really see how this helps...
medical anti-perspirant deodorant says to put it on at night, it's because it clogs the pores when they're not as active as during the day
Coincidence this get posted today when I went to a seminar this morning on Money laundering and the guy giving the seminar had on one of those two color shirts, all blue with white collors. He was sweating perfusely to the point where it looked like a print out of lake Michigan under his armpits.
Damn Son. Get your shit together.
Certain Dri: http://www.amazon.com/Certain-Dri-Anti-Perspirant-Prescription-Strength…
[quote=Matthias]Certain Dri: http://www.amazon.com/Certain-Dri-Anti-Perspirant-Prescription-Strength…]
He beat me to it. Don't get Botox. Undershirts help, fans don't. Replacing coffee with water helps some too. Trimming your pits helps, but the #1 best thing you can do is buy Certain Dri. Stuff works!
I can't really help you with this problem (sounds like a horrible thing to have to deal with), but I have to ask, is it an issue of you feeling hot? Or are you constantly sweating even when the temperature is low.
Maybe try wearing clothes (shirts, etc...) that have no synthetic materials, i.e. 100% cotton, etc... Also, make sure your suits are all wool and such.
I have the same problem, and yes, it occurs even when the temperature is low.

lol the title of this thread is awesome
Mitchum also helps
put some straws on your armpits and suck it dry
Try not to think about it, that'll only make it worse
Dude you probably have something called hyperhidrosis. It is when your sweat glands are very sensitive to nervous stimuli (could be just normal brain activity too), so you end up sweating a lot. There are two main things you can do that will change your life. I suffered with hand sweat and I understand your frustration. 1. Botox injections every 6 months since botox will numb your nerves and your glands wont react by excessively sweating 2. ETS-C Endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy (ETS-C).Clamping the nerves of the armpit shut, as opposed to completely severing the nerves (old school way). The advantage to ETS-C is it is potentially reversible should that be necessary. Straight ETS surgery cannot be undone. ETS-C is performed using general anesthesia and the patient can normally go back to regular activity within 48 hours of surgery.

+1 For Certain Dri
Mitchum did nothing for me and neither did botox, after a few days I was sweating bullets through that shit.
I tried out Certain Dri, putting it on before bed. Burns the shit out of your armpit after applying. Very discomforting while trying to pass out but let me tell ya....I dont sweat a drop for a good week after, even during the summer.
Its legit and its the only solution I have found that works consistently.
Its weird though I never had a sweating problem growing up until a few years ago, after starting to drink coffee everyday...
End with the sweaters! (Originally Posted: 05/21/2012)
I was a sweater. Any time I was under pressure, or a deadline was coming up I would sweat like a motherfucker. So I did a 20 minute google search came upon CertainDri and BAM! sweat no more. Just wanted to share for all the guys who were having the same problem at work. Use like it says in the instructions and the shit will work wonders.
not sure if spammer or just really weird dude, but yeah, certain dri works really well. -a guy who sweats in 30 degree weather
i'm gonna say really weird dude
Certain Dri is not the solution. It gave me a very bad rash in the armpit area and my whole eyes, nose, and lips were swollen and red.
I looked like emmitt till
omggg
dude thats bad...like really bad
but my god is it fuckin funny
obviously you had a reaction that's not common with most people... so to say that Certain Dri is not the solution is like saying that the flu vaccine is not worth it because some random person had a bad reaction to it.
