First Watch into Career?
Hi everyone,
I’ve been looking into getting a watch in the near future and was wondering what everyone’s first piece was when they started into their careers?
Also, I’ve been starting to look into some options and the Omega Aqua Terra has caught my eye but unsure if this would be too aggressive or if anyone will really care?? I would prefer a watch that I could wear in and out of a suit, bit of an everyday feel. Any suggestions or advice would be extremely helpful!
The AT definitely wouldn't be too aggressive. It's a great first watch - mine was a DateJust and it, like the Omega AT, fits your criteria well.
Aquaterra is awesome and can be dressed up/down easily with a ton of straps. Don't bother buying the official ones btw, total scam.
official ones as the ones from Omega themselves?? I’ve been looking on Chrono24 and have found some cheaper than retail
Great watch. Not too aggressive at all and a great price point for a early/mid 20s guy.
Apple Watch with a few different leather bands and a movado museum classic automatic if we have a dinner that day. Not a big watch guy tho.
Wow I googled the watch OP mentioned and I must be broke as FUCK.. because that’s in a whole different tier of “beginner” watches than I was thinking
In the world of mechanical watchmaking you have the true entry level, aka Seiko/Orient/Swatch System 51/Tissot/etc., that are about $150-500, and then you have a bunch of so-so brands in the $1-3k range, then the blue chip brands start to come into play, Rolex, Omega, Cartier, Grand Seiko, Jaeger LeCoultre, etc. and those start at $5k for a basic watch and can easily reach $50k+ depending on model and metal.
Kind of a similar question, would a grand seiko be too much as an analyst? I have a bunch of entry level watches (seiko, tissot) and want to go up a level.
I can't imagine any watch in the $3-5k range as being too much, it's hard to get ostentatious in that price range (no Patek, no gold Rolex, etc.).
I don't know, maybe don't go grand seiko...you already have one. And most people don't know the difference.
Tag Heuer
I like Tag, any thoughts on the Tag smart watches though? I think their smart watch looks pretty slick with the metal band
Absolutely the Aqua Terra, it is a beautiful watch. Can't go wrong, that or a datejust/oyster. But think the AT has more personality.
I’ve heard being able to actually get a datejust/oyster is almost impossible which is why I thought the AT was the perfect opportunity
I thought only the sport watches were hard to get?
The 41mm DJ will be moderately hard to get at retail. You almost certainly won't get to pick the combination (color, oyster vs. jubilee, fluted or note etc.). If you're not a douche you can probably land one after a few months of staying in touch with an AD. My first watch was actually a blue dial DJ and my current daily driver is a sub.
