Earn your stripes...earn your sleds?
Hi there kings of the jungle,
a message from a monkey whos new to the game but not new to the game, a.k.a a cry for help from corporate limbo
In Corporate America - or the Street specifically - what would be appropriate footwear for an MBA Associate hopeful? I am well acquainted with the meme scene and have heard of the mythical "deal sleds". Is this a thing that comes with a certain position, like bowties? Or are there any "blend in" entry level type shoes I need to get my hands on?
The stats:
- ~2 years of corporate banking on Dutch domestics, mostly Industrials
- ~2+ years of investment banking experience in emerging markets (Middle East, North Africa). Stationed in Cairo, Egypt.
- CFA Charter awarded
- Inbound to the US to pursue an Ivy MBA
Thanks for helping a fella out. When in Rome, act like the Romans amirite
.
Got it 👍 On your last point: I wouldn't dare; that's tier 1 privilege anywhere
Thanks, appreciate it
Aldens, not AE. Alden makes best RTW shoes in US. They used to make shoes for Brooks Brothers. Not sure if that’s still true.
The point is, wearing Aldens signals you understand unwritten rules of the game and don’t need to be schooled. Get the shoes right and boss man will be confident you probably get other important things right, too.
If people don’t know you, they will judge you on your public presentation of self. You want that presentation to be to your advantage, not disadvantage.
Don’t fuck around with Brand X. Wear what’s proper.
