Working at American Express?
I plan on getting an MBA and doing IB for a few years. Then I'd like to switch into corp dev or work as a finance manager.
How is it working at American Express? Culture? Salary? Hours? Is there flextime that makes it possible to work 4 days a week?
Any insight would be appreciated
4 days a week?
Lots of large companies (non-IB) offer 4 day weeks where you can work 1 day from home (or more). Others do a 9 day/80 hour schedule. Not unusual, though not necessarily "normal", but a lot of companies are looking to make the flex move - helps keep employees happy.
Hate to break it to you OP, but 4 years from now the answers won't be the same. Unless you mean you want to go to AmEx THEN go for your MBA THEN go into IB and FINALLY back into corpdev...
I work at a F100 in FP&A, my boss literally work from home like 3 times a week, and he recently got a promotion
I can see Corp Dev at larger companies with more flexibility on the hours, but at smaller, cash strapped companies (like mine), we're pulling a ton of hours, and unless the CEO or CFO give me the green light to get off all projects, I'm glued 24/7.
Overall, I think a lot of people make the assumption that Corp Dev is a great exit opp with work hours, but if you have equity tied to the company, and your CEO is working long hours, it's likely you'll have little flextime...
