Tulane Mfin vs SMU Cox Mfin. What is better for placements in Dallas/ Houston Big 4 or Consulting Firms?

Would they be the best Mfin programs in texas after UTAustin? I was wondering if these programs are worth it or if a Masters in Accounting is a better bet for such roles? What do you think of the Accounting programs at these two unis?

They are probably the best in Dallas/Houston after both UT and Vanderbilt (SMU stronger in Dallas than Tulane, and Tulane stronger in Houston). Would, however, explore UT’s MPA if interested in Big 4 accounting functions - excellent program with some placement (~10%) for those interested in consulting/finance.

What about Indiana and UIUC iMSA

Not familiar with the program, but UIUC has good national rep. I would guess their strength is more in the Midwest (same as the parent institution). If you’re targeting Dallas/Houston, better to focus on the programs with a stronger pull in that market, such as SMU, Tulane, and UT.

Can uiuc ms finance get me into I banking? What do you think about the prestige of the university in general? I thought it was only known for comp sci and accounting with its accounting department being a top 2 in the US. Also, can uiuc get me into MBB/ BB after the MSF?

Hard to answer without knowing much on your prior experience, but there are only a small number of MSF programs that give you a decent shot of even MM IB. Could you make it from UIUC? Maybe.. But you would be the exception, not the norm. Again, UIUC rep in Chi is likely pretty strong, but outside of that I don't think there is enough brand name strength to make you highly competitive in other markets like NYC or DAL/HOU like you mention.

I don't mind the location tbh. I just want to get into the best place I can and work in a city with good opportunities. I guess Dallas and Austin are good and hence am aiming for UT Austin/ Dallas, Tulane and SMU but am wondering if SMU, Tulane and UT Dallas are good schools with decent reps and what kind of placements I could expect from them. I have family in Dallas but I am an international
