Birthday Gift?

I am a summer intern at a F100 company. One of the analysts here has been very nice to me and has helped me with MANY things! I really want to show my appreciation. His birthday is coming up soon would it be acceptable for me to get him a gift ($50)? Money is not an issue here. I just want to be sure that it would be okay? He also took me for lunch.

I think it would be weird. Exchanging gifts implies a relationship that is way above what should occur in an intern/non-intern relationship. I have very close friends with whom i don't exchange birthday gifts. If you really want to do something nice buy him lunch, or a few drinks and a lap dance.

I have no clue. We went out to lunch a couple weeks ago and had some red wine, and that's pretty much the only time I've seen him have anything other than beer.

Well what type of beer does he drink? You could always get him some micro brews. unless you know more about what type of wine he likes getting him a bottle could be hit or miss.

Get him some Cantuccinis with the appropriate bottle of wine, that has class and is not too much. It also shows that you did not buy some random bottle of wine. When you give the bottle to him say something like "..happy birthday blabla and you also want to thank him for this efforts to mentor you"

I also have an excellent relationship with my boss, but I would never get him anything for his birthday. Just not how bros roll.
