Tech Consulting --> Management/Strategy Consulting

I've worked in corporate FP&A roles for a few years now and my goal is to go into strategy/management consulting at some point my career (preferably after I get my MBA).  I currently work at a firm that has a competitive technology consulting practice and I am considering roles in that space in order to gain client-facing experience as well as a more well-rounded skillset with gaining Workday certification training (in this case, this is a Workday software implementation practice).

Does this potential career move to technology consulting provide incremental value if my end-goal is strategy/management consulting? or Will this require unnecessary effort that won't provide much utility down the road?
