Rejecting someone over a video call
Hi guys,
I finished the final round interview with a TMT consulting boutique and they told me that I’ll hear back this week. But yesterday, I received an email saying that they “have news regarding my interview”.
Since they are planning to give me feedback/tell me the result next week instead of this week, I assumed that I will not be getting the job (I got rejected from Bain after the final round 4 days after while someone I know who got an offer got a phone call 1 day after the interview).
However, they mentioned that they will break the news for me via a Teams video call, which made me think that rejecting someone over Teams is very unlikely (it’s easier and less awkward to reject someone over a phone call).
Am I overthinking this? Do firms normally reject final round candidates over video calls?
I have never heard of it, but I guess anything is possible.
Normally a rejection is done via email. Phone call is technically a possibility, and if they want to share more information or if they had done this f2f otherwise, a Teams call might what they picked as a solution.
Hard to get a read on it. Most of my rejections were via phone or email and all of my offers were given via phone call. Strange either way
You're overthinking it. Video calls are the default whenever events are added to a calendar
Re: timing, I would not assume that next week guarantees you didn't get an offer. Some firms just work in different ways
Good luck!
