Pondering a move to the middle East (MBB). What do you think?
I've been thinking about this given my kick start with consulting wasn't too pleasant with covid. My thinking is "fuck it, cash isn't too bad of a motive."
I am from a non-target but someone referred me on an MBB office in Dubai. I have dual citizenship (French & American). I'll be working primarily with financial institutions, specifically PEs & SWFs. Of course the only merit here is money and comfortable lifestyle, with tax free income and a bunch of allowances (housing, gas, medical etc) and luxurious hotel stays and what not.
Obviously the downsides are too hard to get over, primarily:
- Terrible weather
- Not a suitable culture for dating/going out generally
- Ahem uhh... murderous genocidal monarchies, this matters because most projects are financed and directly benefit the governments (I know, I know, our govts suck too, but obviously this is a different case).
The most critical point perhaps is that the guy who referred me (from the region) connected me with a British guy who jumped from ME MBB to PE in the US after a Harvard MBA paid fully by his office in Dubai. So this way I'm not losing exit opps
Thoughts?
Thoughts anyone????
Could just be my opinion but why not? Especially if you are in your first year or two there's such limited downside. Sounds like a really cool opportunity to get a unique experience
Your take on Dubai is absolutely beyond laughable. If you mention any of that to the referral he will laugh you out of the room.
