Long-term Goal: Landing in Singapore/HK from US as T2 Consultant

Hi folks

I'm in my second year out of undergrad at a Tier-2 consultancy (think OW, LEK, Strategy&) in a major US city on the west coast. In the long-run, I would like to spend some time in the Asia-Pacific region--specifically Singapore or Hong Kong. Does anyone have any experience with office transfers out of country to one of those cities? Alternatively, what kind of exit paths would increase my potential to work in Singapore/HK?

Right now my job is a mix of CDD and TMT strategy work.

Thanks!

Depends on which of those firms it is. I got approved (but never went) at my T2 for a HK and/or SG 1y+ secondment. Which firm are you at?

Actually, I guess it doesn't matter. Look at your internal resources, talk to EMs or Partners in those other offices, ask if they'd have appetite for a transfer. If you have good conversations with them I'll bet they'd say yes. Then bring it up with your staffer and tell them it is something you want to do and have people on the other end who will help pull you over. It's really not a big deal, probably just takes 1-2 months of talking with various people, communicating internally, paperwork, etc.

Firms tend to sponsor these things less and less these days, so consider that you will probably have to eat moving costs.
