CRE Brokerage or Corporate Finance Internship To Eventually Break Into Consulting?
Hello,
I am a sophomore at a Non-HYPS/Wharton target school (think Dartmouth/Duke/Ross), and I am thankful to have a corporate finance/accounting internship lined up for this summer at a Fortune 500 company. It is important to note, however, that this internship is at a regional office somewhat far from where I live and they will not pay for my housing. However, it looks like theres a possibility I may get an offer for a brokerage internship a top RE company (think CBRE/JLL/Cushman & Wakefield) at a location close to where I live -- helping me save a lot of money. I tried to get a management consulting internship, but had no luck (probably since I did not network enough/effectively). I have a skills background in sales and operations, and have worked for real estate companies in both of these functions -- hence I why I am doing better in CRE recruitment than consulting. Considering the skills and experience needed for management consulting and the fact that the real estate internship would likely save me a couple thousand dollars, what is likely my best option if I eventually want to break into management consulting? Also note that the CRE company is definitely the more prestigious company, but I am unsure if brokerage will teach me the skills I need for consulting as well as a corporate finance internship. Hence, although I do need money, I am willing to lose some money if that is the case (also note that I don't have formal financial work experience). But maybe the brokerage internship will teach me other skills that the corporate finance internship would not? I really don't know to be honest. I'd like to hear other people's thoughts.
