BB Asset Management? IS it PWM? Possibly interesting. You need to combine it with campus leadership and some unique stuff. In my opinion getting into MC is less formulaic than BB IB - I'm getting you'll have more benefits for IB recruitment then consulting recruitment with this internship.
Any Ivy candidate with a 3.9+ will get interviews from MBB.

A random engineer with a 3.9 and nothing else to offer doesn't get an interview - with MBB its about leadership as well as grades (but given that you will have a BB AM internship you are likely a go-getter type that does have leadership).
Given your strong profile, I'd say start working on cases.
Maybe not with McKinsey, but with Bain and BCG, he'll definitely get one. Especially Bain who basically interviews everyone with any experience and has a low GPA cutoff.
I know, I've been through it... although, I am sure it depends on the Ivy. Maybe not at Cornell or Brown.

MBB interview like 50 kids at each of the schools they target. You'd have to be a retard not to get an interview.
Uh, no. Lots of qualified people didn't get interviews. You don't understand that the interest in consulting is much more broad-based. It isn't only the corporate/money types who apply for these positions. The number of people applying actually dwarfs all the investment banks.
Case-in-point: a Rhodes Scholar from my school did the McKinsey interview rounds, didn't care at all about investment banking etc. Ditto for some of the smartest pre-meds and engineers.
So 50 out of a larger and (in my humble opinion) more competitive pool isn't exactly great odds.
