Waitlist, got interview, then got rejected, don't know why

applied an ivy league MBA program at R2, they put me to waitlist, but happy to see they pull me out recently and gave me an interview. Performed very well at the interview, at least in my opinion.

Suprisingly, they rejected me after one month. Really don't understand why they come to that decision?

Is that mean my interview is a determinate factor? otherwise, why they give me an interview since I was on waitlist.

It's a finance school but they don't have much people placed to buyside. When I answer my short term goal is to join buyside such as blackrock via their MBA program, maybe I shouldn't say like that? Maybe I should align with their placement statistics? which they have strong track record place people to investment bank.

Difficult to tell the reason. In my exp (HSW grad here), AdComs put you in a competitive bucket based on your PAST experience and often within your geo.

I would say you probably got dinged by a similar candidate that performed similarly to you in the interview but got a higher GMAT/GPA and/or got a marginally better work experience. Or even by someone similar to you but from a minority background
