Securitized Credit Research Exits
I'm currently a junior analyst at a large asset manager doing securitized products research. First job out of an MSF program. It's a relatively broad job, but the core responsibility is helping senior analysts with modeling of individual bonds / deals (collateral analysis, deal structure, relative value), and showing in best ideas (buy and sell) to PMs across multiple strategies (largely via internal research notes). But I also do other things like performance attribution and portfolio analysis / surveillance. I focus mostly on CMBS and CLOs, but have some exposure to ABS and RMBS as well.
I find the work interesting and wouldn't mind staying in securitized credit research. But I'm a bit worried about how niche it seems to be and whether or not I'm pigeonholing myself at all if I decide to make a change down the road (the fundamental analysis process is pretty unique / specific for each product). I'm wondering what other buy-side roles I could reasonably expect to pivot to after 3 or so years in my current role? Thanks all.
