Question guys - i know someone whose resume I came across at my firm (top BB). He works in IBD but listed a different group than the one he actually works in at my bank (i.e., he actually works in DCM FIG, but listed his group as FIG coverage).

Have you guys seen this before? Has anyone been able to pull it off if he spins it the right away? Apparently, this guy has an offer from a major PE fund (think Cerberus, TH Lee Partners, etc.)

What are the chances of this guy getting caught?

Maybe a smart move if you have enough people in said group as references, considering headhunters filter you based on group. But if your deals and experience are legit then don't see how you would necessarily be caught.

I'm surprised he got the offer - wouldn't that mean he would have also lied during the interview about his specific role and responsibilities when he got the walk me through your resume/deals question? You'd think that this is a VERY easy thing for a PE shop to confirm with a phone call to the BB.

I'll give the OP the benefit of the doubt that he's not 'the guy'. I don't think anyone is stupid enough to announce this if they were the culprit. I think the guy is 'a friend' that the OP thinks undeservingly received a top offer (when he didn't, or did but a 'lesser offer') and wants to see justice served and is half-hoping that someone from the top fund is reading this thread and will do the DD

The OP was named Johnny Quest so I had to do it... I was really into them way back in college (10+ years ago). They put on a great live show as well.
